This lightweight receiver is simple to use and accurately maps pipes and cables
The Fisher TW-8880 digital line tracer is user-friendly with a large LCD display that gives all necessary information in one place. Unmatched functionality and ergonomic design.
Accurate Utility Tracing with Multi‑Mode Detection and Depth Readout
The TW‑8800 combines digital signal processing, multi-frequency tracing modes, and intuitive user interface. Built for utility locating professionals, surveyors, and field crews, it enables precise mapping of buried conductive lines and energized power paths in a single integrated system.
Dual-Mode Locating: Active and Passive
Active locating uses both the transmitter and receiver. Three selectable frequencies, 82 kHz, 8.2 kHz, and 820 Hz, match different utility types and trace conditions. Active conductive, inductive, and coupling clamp methods allow flexible deployment when direct connection is available or not
Passive locating requires only the receiver. Power mode (50/60 Hz) detects energized lines, while radio mode (14–30 kHz) captures stray RF signals. An oscillating tone helps detect weak signals reliably
Frequency Flexibility
Choose 82 kHz for non‑continuous utilities or lack of direct connection, 8.2 kHz for conductive or inductive tracing on grounded lines, or 820 Hz when maximizing trace distance is key
Visual and Audio Guidance
Left/right guidance uses tonal patterns (continuous tone = left, pulsed tone = right) and varying pitch to indicate signal strength and target location. Visual guidance on the display provides over‑target messages for intuitive tracing
Large LCD and Keypad Control
Backlit LCD offers numeric strength readout (0‑99%) and bar graph. Controls allow switching modes, adjusting volume, checking battery level, and activating the display light
Push-Button Depth Measurement
Once over the utility centerline, placing the receiver on the ground and pressing the depth button provides a depth reading. Accuracy is approximately ±1 inch per foot under ideal conditions
Long Battery Life
Receiver runs on six C‑cells; transmitter uses two 6 V lantern batteries. Each provides up to 80 hours runtime at 82 kHz. Low battery alerts display on-screen
Weather-Resistant Construction
The tracer is built to withstand field conditions including moisture, dust, and impact. Its durable housing and water-resistant design support daily utility use
Balanced Ergonomics
Receiver weighs approximately 6 lb; transmitter about 7.8 lb. Balanced layout allows steady operation during extended shifts. Controls remain accessible through gloves and the display is easy to read in low light
