The MI-88 magnetic impulse indicator is designed to be hand- held as the user walks along the cable route listening for the “thump” at the fault. When the magnetic field surrounding the cable during an electrical impulse is sensed, it lights its high intensity L.E.D., telling the user three things. First that the impulser or “thumper” is working; second that the user is within a few feet of the cable route; and third, precisely when the thump occurs so that the user can be listening more carefully at that instant.
